“You seriously didn’t have anyone else to call?” Becca frowns at me as she sets her purse down in the booth and shakes her hair out. “Don’t you have a ton of celebrity wives on speed dial?”

Actually, I do. Because I’m great at arranging events and keeping track of small details, I was the organizer of The Celeb Wives Club—a group of women married to actors, musicians, and athletes. It was a mantle that I wore early on in Dean’s career.

However, when the troubles with Dean began, that club became more toxic than a chemical waste.

None of those women cared about me. My only ticket in wasn’t my worth or my personality. It was the fact that I was married to Dean. It was a networking event, and I no longer enjoyed the catty scandals or the gossip about Dean’s latest fan-gone-too-far.

I have ‘normal’ friends too, but I don’t talk to them about me and Dean. The only person I broke that rule with was Jasper and it wasn’t the greatest decision.

I take a sip of my water and eye her over the glass. “Hi to you too, sister.”

“Whatever.” She tilts her head. “You’ve got thirty minutes. Tell me what you have to tell me so I can go.”

“It’s about Dean.”

“Of course it is.” She rolls her eyes.

“Becca, can you just listen for a second? If you’re too busy judging me, you won’t hear what I’m saying.”

“I’m not judging you.”

I give her a yeah right look.

“Okay. Fine.” She throws her hands up. “Maybe a little. Can you blame me? You’ve got everything you could ever want. A handsome husband. Money. A nice house. It’s not like you married a thieving drug addict who lied about his relapse.”

I rest my hand on hers. “I’m really sorry. I know we didn’t get to talk much since your divorce—”

She slides her hand away from mine. “You have twenty-nine minutes left, Jaz. I’d suggest you don’t spend them pitying me.”

“I need some advice.”

Her expression softens just a bit. Like the sun cracking an ice lake. It’s still solid ice. It’s still dangerous, but some pieces are fragile enough to break through the center.

“What’s wrong?” Becca grumbles.

“Things haven’t been the greatest between me and Dean lately. In fact, things got so bad, I went to a divorce lawyer.”

Becca gasps loudly. “Mr. and Mrs. Perfect are getting divorced?”

“Would you be quiet?” I hiss, glancing around at the busy cafe.

“I’m sorry. I just never thought I’d see the day. I thought he adored you. The man posted your pictures and wrote a ten-paragraph speech about how beautiful you were, like, yesterday.”

I saw that.

And I also saw the comments under it. They were a mix of ‘aw, that’s so cute’ and ‘isn’t she cheating on you?’

I don’t know if that ‘wife appreciation’ post was Dean’s idea or the agency’s attempt at damage control, but it just made things worse.

“The problem I have isn’t with who Dean is,” I admit. “It’s what he does.”

“Singing?”

“The fame.”

Becca tilts her head knowingly. “The girls.
